Prevent Sun Baked Skin with the Right SPF

In the video below the presenter describes, with some sadness, the face of a woman he’d seen who had clearly damaged her facial skin through over exposure to the Suns harmful rays. He talks, inaccurately, about SPF as if it is some form of magic ingredient.

SPF simply stands for ‘Sun Protection Factor’. This is a laboratory measure of the effectiveness of a sunscreen application. The higher the SPF, the higher the protection. The SPF figure indicates roughly how long someone wearing the sunscreen could be exposed to the suns rays without getting sunburned. An SPF of 10 means that a person who would ordinarily burn in about 20 minutes would, in theory, be able to spend ten times as long in the sun before they burned, if they were wearing the sunscreen effectively.

As a good rule of thumb - wear the highest SPF factor that you can and never go below SPF 15. The Dermalogica range of sunscreen products are a great example of effective sun screen treatments for everyday use that can work with makeup.
