Personal jet propelled backpacks have been the stuff of science fiction, and James bond, for decades. But this design, using a fixed wing and jet engines looks like it could be the precursor to a potential production model.

The jet engines propel the pilot at speeds of around 180mph. It is necessary to wear a heat resistant suit, as worn by formula one drivers, and landing can only be achieved with 2 parachutes. Despite these constraints Mr Rossy is confident that he will be able to cross the channel successfully.
