LCD and Plasma TVs - What’s The Difference Between The Two?
Believe it or not, there is a difference between LCD and plasma TVs, other than the name brand. Most people make the assumption that the terms are interchangeable, but in reality there is a different science and technology between the two types. To further that misconception, you can factor in how the LCD and plasma flat screen televisions are different than the typical cathode-ray tv sets still found in many households. If you want to get really confusing, not every flat screen television or flat screen monitor is actually plasma or LCD. Confusing isn’t it?
The main difference between LCD and plasma TVs is what is put between the two pieces of glass that make up the picture. Plasma TVs have gas which produces the color and LCD uses liquid crystals. The crystals filter the color whereas the gas charges the particles into phosphors. The phosphors are red, green and blue and come together into pixels which produce the picture.
So, which of the two are better? That is a matter of opinion but plasma flat screen televisions do suffer from excessive heat if left on too long and can have what is called a “screen burn.” A screen burn occurs when a static image is left on the screen for a long time and remains even when you change the channel. This can also easily happen with computer monitors.
LCD and plasma TVs are probably still considered much better than their predecessors. They are much slimmer and are generally preferred because they take up less space. They can even be hung on walls with the proper mounting equipment and brackets, or you can purchase LCD and plasma tv stands. If you decide to buy a plasma or LCD television, then compare the differences and then decide for yourself.
