Epoxy Floor And Bubbles - What To Do?

Formation of bubbles is often seen in epoxy floors. Bubbles are usually observed to be the size of a pinhead or more than an inch in diameter. They are found in the entire floor or as a group. This is usually due to a phenomenon called ‘out gassing’. The time when this occurs is when our epoxy paint starts to dry. The rise in temperature is the reason for the heating of the air in the concrete making it expand and form bubbles.

Application primer should be used to reduce the chance of bubble appearance. Make sure that you do not apply epoxy coating where there is direct sunlight and it would be good to use a drill with slower speed to mix the coating.

Use medium roller if you already decided to use one. Use gentle and slow motions when you are applying your epoxy paint. Our epoxy garage paint will have less bubbles with this.

You can use rotary scrubber ans some sandpaper to remove all those bubbles on your epoxy floor. Use some sandpaper to roughen the bubbled area as a first step. Then scrupulously clean the dust. Use a rag dipped in solvent to clean the area you worked on. Apply another coating of epoxy when you are finished with this. Another type of bubble observed is fisheyes. They are usually caused by residual silicon on the surface.

This can be cleaned by scrubbing the surface area with sandpaper of a medium grit. When you are finished with this, you can clean the entire place with solvent dipped rag. And now you are ready to apply fresh epoxy coating.

Consider shot blasting or sand blasting the entire epoxy coating in case the bubbles are spread all over that floor. You will need to sand blast the entire area of epoxy coating first. Afterwards clean the problem area with acid. You can isolate the entire area, in case it is rather small. Repair the area and then apply the coating again.

Moisture is also a cause of bubbles in our epoxy flooring. To verify this break one of the blisters thus formed and see if there is any moisture inside.
